Buyer-Fit Insights & New Car Support

Release Overview

February 2026 shipped two shifts together: buyer-fit insights that help shoppers decide if a car is right for them, and full new-car support across the widget suite.

Carvia no longer leads with “is this a lemon?” Insights now answer the questions that actually convert — lifestyle fit, ownership expectations, class comparison, and what to confirm before signing. At the same time, dealers selling new inventory finally have a Carvia story: MSRP-grounded valuations, fit-focused narratives, and widgets that adapt when mileage is under 1,000.

One embed on your VDP now covers your entire lot — used, new, and (with EV Insights) electric.

The Problem We Solved

Fear-based vehicle intelligence was hurting conversion — and new inventory had no story at all.

Early Carvia insights were built around risk: title brands, salvage warnings, red flags, deal-breakers. That framing made sense for distressed used inventory — but it scared away good buyers on clean cars and failed undecided shoppers who needed help deciding fit, not fear.

Meanwhile, dealers with new-car lots had no reason to embed Carvia. Widgets assumed used-vehicle history, inspection checklists, and odometer alarmism — none of which apply to a 12-mile CR-V on the showroom floor. Sales teams could not use Carvia as a full-lot tool.

The Buyer-Fit Shift

A product tone change driven by what actually converts on the VDP.

Buyer-fit insights reframe every AI summary around three questions shoppers actually ask:

  • Who is this a good fit for? — lifestyle, use case, and buyer profile
  • What should you confirm before signing? — practical verification steps, not scare tactics
  • How does it compare in its class? — trim positioning and competitive context

Explicitly prohibited: yes/no verdicts, “Should you buy?”, alarmist phrasing, and a defined list of banned terms including risk, red flag, deal-breaker, strong buy, avoid, and safe bet. The tone is consultative — like a knowledgeable salesperson explaining context, not an insurance underwriter issuing warnings.

For used vehicles, history signals still appear when present in NMVTIS data — but they are framed as ownership context, not fear. For clean-title cars with no issues, insights do not list categories of problems that are absent. They move on to fit and value.

Why this matters: Shoppers who feel scared leave. Shoppers who feel informed convert. Buyer-fit framing was validated against conversion data — and is now enforced structurally in AI system instructions, not just suggested in prompts.

What's New

Core

Buyer-fit insight guidance

AI summaries across the Insights tab reframed around lifestyle fit, ownership expectations, test-drive priorities, and negotiation context. Carousel layout leads with owner/community copy and expands the “What Owners Say” section — meeting shoppers where their research already happens.

New

Widgets for new cars

Valuation, insights, specifications, and Carvia Score widgets now detect new inventory (<1,000 miles with no registration history, or explicit isNew flag from your feed) and switch to new-car data paths and messaging automatically.

New

New-car valuation prompts

Dedicated AI valuation path for new vehicles — MSRP from EVD2 build data as the source of truth, depreciation framing, and market positioning vs. used alternatives. New cars are not labeled overpriced when priced at or near MSRP.

New

New-car insights mode

When a vehicle qualifies as new, inspection recommendation sections are hidden and AI focuses on trim/value positioning, warranty baseline, reviewer synthesis, and fit guidance — not used-car history alarmism.

New

Audience-specific summaries

The same vehicle data generates different insight summaries for shoppers (consumer) vs. your sales team (dealer). Shoppers see confidence-building retail copy; dealer-facing summaries emphasize coaching angles for desk conversations.

New

Banned-term enforcement

Shared banned-term list across legacy and context-based insight generators — structurally blocking fear-based language in AI output, with post-processing guardrails on inspection sections for new cars.

How It Works

  1. Vehicle loads on your VDP. The widget carousel fetches VIN decode, NMVTIS, EVD2, and inventory data — including your feed's isNew flag when present.
  2. New-car detection runs. Under 1,000 miles plus no title/ownership history (or explicit new flag) triggers new-car mode across insights, valuation, and score widgets.
  3. AI generates buyer-fit content. System instructions enforce fit framing, banned terms, and output budgets. Used cars get history-grounded context; new cars get MSRP-grounded valuation and fit-focused narratives.
  4. Audience routing applies. Consumer embeds get shopper-facing summaries. Dealer-session embeds can request dealer-audience coaching copy via the insights summary API.
  5. Carousel renders the right experience. Insights tab shows fit sections, owner community copy, and market context — with inspection grids hidden on new cars. Valuation tab shows MSRP-anchored fair value for new inventory.
No re-install required. If you already have the Widget Carousel embedded, buyer-fit insights and new-car support are active automatically. Verify your inventory feed includes new-vehicle flags for fastest detection.

Value by Role

For general managers

  • One embed, full lot — used and new inventory on the same Carvia platform
  • Higher-conversion tone — insights that help shoppers say yes, not scare them away
  • Consistent brand voice — consultative framing across every VDP

Scenario: Your store sells 60% used and 40% new. Before February, only the used side had a Carvia story. Now every VDP — CR-V on the showroom floor or CPO Accord — delivers tailored intelligence.

For marketing and internet directors

  • Conversion-optimized copy — buyer-fit framing aligned with what actually moves shoppers down-funnel
  • New-car merchandising — MSRP context and trim positioning without custom VDP content per listing
  • Audit-ready VDPs — pairs with VDP Audit to show prospects what fit-based content looks like vs. factory spec dumps

For sales professionals

  • Coaching angles built in — dealer-audience summaries give desk conversation starters
  • New-car confidence — no awkward inspection checklists on a 15-mile vehicle
  • Fit-based openers — “The insights say this trim is a great fit for families who need third-row access — let me show you why.”

Scenario: A shopper is torn between two new SUVs on your lot. Your salesperson opens the Insights tab and walks through class comparison and fit summary — turning the VDP into a guided consultation instead of a spec sheet.

Getting Started

  1. Confirm your carousel embed is live. Buyer-fit insights and new-car support activate automatically on supported widget builds — no re-install required.
  2. Verify your inventory feed. Ensure new vehicles include accurate mileage and, where available, an isNew flag so detection is instant rather than inferred from history.
  3. Spot-check both inventory types. Open a used VDP and a new VDP. Used should show fit framing with history context when relevant. New should hide inspection grids and lead with trim, warranty, and MSRP-grounded valuation.
  4. Brief your sales team. Point them to the Insights tab as a consultation tool — especially the fit summary and class comparison sections.
  5. Pair with analytics. Use Widget Analytics to measure whether the tone shift correlates with higher engagement and lead outcomes.
